Ghost Clan
The Ghost Clan was the ancient enemy of the clans of the Inner Realms, known to delve dangerously into use of the Deep Magics. Based on Unwritten Dreigiau, the Ghost Clan was defeated and scattered shortly before the founding of Nefol, and that act sealed ZenToYa’s position of leadership.
SaRaYa describes the Ghost Clan as:
“It was said that those who gave themselves to the Deep Magics, those who became Ghost Clan, were devoured from the inside out by that power. In time, blood and bone and spirit became one with the Deep Magic, and it glowed within them when they drew upon the power. It’s what gave the clan their name and frightening appearance.”
Unwritten Dreigiau, Chapter 6
Unlike other clans that were based primarily on bloodline, the Ghost Clan were scavengers who brought in outcasts of other tribes an initiated them with the curse of dark magics. Leadership within the Ghost Clan is based mostly on succession of a family line, however, should a leader show weakness, the laws of the clan allow for a stronger individual to overthrow and seize leadership.
Before the Dreigiau story takes place, the Ghost Clan secretly returned to work with Zerom to infiltrate the Nefolian council and help bring Nefol down from the inside out. It was through the efforts of the hidden members of the Ghost Clan that JinRai was slain and Zento was exiled from the city.
One such infiltrator was BaatNi, the father of XaNi, who rose to take a seat upon the Nefolian Council. Upon his death, she inherited his position. She was the one who hunted KoGuRai down when he attempted to lead people out of the Zerom-stricken Nefol, and captured him for Zerom.
KoGuRai describes XaNi as:
The room felt chilled as XaNi approached, bathed in a pale, ghostly light. From behind his curtain of hair, KoGuRai could see the blue glowing veins that traced under her skin, vanishing under the close-fitting leather armor. He didn’t dare look into her face, which now had a skull-like appearance, as if flesh was withering away with time.
Unlike the Marked beasts, XaNi was very much in control of her vicious, hungry, actions. She reveled in his pain and bathed in his terror, searching for ways to push him beyond his threshold without killing him. When he stopped responding, she appeared all the more enthralled.
“Did you miss me, KoGuRai?” she drew near and whispered in his ear. Her scent nearly made him gag.
She lifted one blue-ghost finger and traced it across KoGuRai’s bare torso. He could feel his flesh curdle and scar under her burning touch. Though he fought to remain stoic, his body flinched and jerked wildly in reflex.
He choked back the whimper that tried to force between his lips.

Interesting Facts
- The concept of a Ghost Clan originally meant a clan that had fully or almost fully died out. This concept shifted to become an actual Ghostly Clan through RP storylines between the authors.
- Much of the Ghost Clan lore and individuals was developed by Syn, though the original concept was part of the Dreigiau story, written by Aywren.
