Sahagin (Water Lizard)
Sahagin are humanoid lizard folk who live upon the Blue Planet. While they’re most often known for their water variation, they can also be found in other environments, such as in the desert. They are most commonly seen to inhabit the underground water way under Baron Castle.
There are different clans of water lizards, some being more feral and bestial, while others preferring a peaceful life far away from human settlements in forest ponds or rural lakes. There are some water lizard clans who are more humanoid than others, and possess great intelligence and human-like qualities.
The Cursed Clan
Old RP chats have uncovered the story behind the curse that brought about the mingling of water lizard and humans – specifically that which relates to the Browning bloodline.
Note: These are old chat excerpts from 2009, and the development of this cursed clan may take on a slightly different form when introduce to Wayrift.
Chat Exerpt:
It is such energies which led to the curse upon the people of the forests. The wild magics that were unleashed did not care whether the curse fell upon innocent or guilty. All who carried the bloodline were subject to the effects of the curse.
The nation of the people of the forests was once one of the greatest of nations. They were the holders of most powerful magics, those that promote life to the planet. Even the great houses of the elves served them for their favor.
But when these powerful magics were used and turned to destroy others in the name of self-gain, and the magics were forced to be controlled in the name of hatred by the leaders of the people, their own powers backfired on them... *clouds of vaguely person shaped people writhe and scream as they become lizardlike* …and also passed to the innocent.
Even though they were changed in shape by the chaos that existed, some struggled to retain a sense of their minds. As time passed, even the strongest and most learned of the mages fell to the instinct of their own magics.
As time passes, curses often wane... and sometimes... they seem to reappear.
As for the cure for these creatures... *looks at Bradhoc* …you have always had the power. You have the same power as your ancestors before you.
Wayrift characters known to have some form of Sahagin blood due to the curse include:
- Azure was a water lizard of the cursed clan before Simon’s biomancy gave her a human form.
- Albert is Azure’s younger brother and was a water lizard of the cursed clan. After the curse was broken, he took on a more human form.
- All four children of Azure and KoGuRai. However, Cornflower and Colby are the only two who display physical water lizard traits.
- Baigan Browning - was dormant until activated.
- Bradhoc Browning - was dormant until activated.
