ALL Page-By-Page Archives Complete!

As of today, I have completed all the page-by-age archive coding for Book 2 of Wayrift. This means that every chapter in the entire comic now has a page-by-page navigation view, and all the pages link to each other from the very first to the very last page!

I am SO, SO, SO glad to be done with this project. As you might know, I hit the ground running on this back in January. While I tried to code at least 10 pages a day, I had to take some time off in April due to health related issues, but got right back to it once I was feeling better.

While this was a very big coding project (and boy does my wrist feel it), it was also a lot of fun to go back and restore all the old comments to each of the pages. I didn’t read every single one, but I did spend time among the comments and enjoying a look back at the days of yore.

I’m also happy to see that (perhaps due to this project), we’ve been seeing an uptick in comments on current Wayrift pages. I will say that every comment we get means a lot to me – this day and age, earning actual comments on the Internet is much harder than it used to be.

What made things truly special in the old days of Wayrift were the folks who shared thoughts, ideas, and community in our comments. I’d love to see that revive in the future!

What’s next?

Well, I might take a bit of a break for a short time. But I do want to go back and start building the Book 3 Overview page. It’s the only book that does not have an Overview, since I built out the Book 2 Overview while I was coding for each chapter.

However, I’ve got so many other website projects in the wings, I feel like I need to put some time into those before I come back to Wayrift stuff again. For example, I need to update metadata and analytics on the old Shimmer comic and Darkstar (which probably means nothing to you, and that’s okay, but I know it’s there and needs fixing). I also have a whole gallery of official FFIV art scans I want to add to the Blue Planet.

I suppose it’s true to say that a web dev like myself, who has so, so many websites, never has a lack of coding projects going on. I’ll certainly be jumping to the next thing!

But when I come back to the Book 3 Overview, I’ll be sure to keep things updated here. Oh, and Wiki updates, too, are on my mind.

Thanks always for reading, and please drop us a line in the comments sometime!
