Vision Stone

Vision Stone

Location Information

Type: Relic/Ruin
Association Civlizations of the Time Before
Dimension: Darkstar
Location: Outter Realms, Near Shellab 1.0

While the most common Vision Stone known in the Darkstar universe is the one noted in the Dreigiau story, there is thought to be a lost network of these stones across different worlds. In the Time Before, one purpose of these greater crystals was to facilitate travel via the Infinite Ways from world to world.

However, this knowledge, and the understanding of any other use of the crystal network, has been lost to the passage of time.

The Nefolian Vision Stone was used to bridge a passage to the world of Runne allowing the Nefolians to escape the Dark Sygnus. During this struggle, it was struck down and now remains in pieces.

The Vision Stone of the Nefolian world was described as:

The stone was aptly named, though it was difficult to tell if it was really a stone, or something made of a crystalline structure. It rose gracefully up out of the ground like it belonged there far longer than even the oldest of trees. Time weathered away any sharpness, leaving nothing but a tall smooth spiraling shaft, pointing towards the sky.

Visions

Lucci sees a beacon of light -
The Vision Stone from a distance

Because of its link to the Ways, the crystal can impart visions to those with the capability to make a mental connection. These visions are generally hazy in their meaning and purpose, but also depend upon the receiver of the vision. In Dreigiau, Lucci asked of the crystal and was imparted information that led to him uncovering the location of the sword of the ancient Sygni.

It was noted that being within the area of influence of the stone also granted a sense of protection and mental clarity. Within the Stone’s power, Lucci noted that he no longer struggled with the visions the Mists and Spirits forced on him.

KiNa and the Vision Stone

During the Dreigiau story, scientists NaDo and Maru were stationed at Shellab 1.0 in order to study the Vision Stone that was discovered at the continent’s southern shores. It was during that time that KiNa was born, and it was thought that he was connected to the Vision Stone due to his upbringing within close proximity of the crystal.

NaDo notes that KiNa not only Awakened young, but his wings bore a strange diamond pattern that had not been seen amongst the Awakened before:

“I don’t think being near it has any sort of bad long-term effect. We’ve been here studying the Stone for decades,” Though Lucci was lost to his thoughts, NaDo seemed not to notice. He simply continued on, “In fact, we really didn’t think a lot about it, not until after KiNa was born. Being a mind mage raised within the influence of the Vision Stone...”

Lucci turned to give a questioning look.

“Well, he was a sorta unexpected child. So we’re just doing our best to figure everything out as parents,” he took a deep breath, eyes focusing out towards the north, “But then, he Awakened so early, and he bore strange markings on his wings.”

“Does it mean something?” the youth asked.

“We really don’t know,” NaDo spread his hands. “Maru says that it’s nothing harmful. Still, whenever you’re dealing with powers from the Time Before, there’s so little we know. So little information.”

(Dreigiau, Book 3 Chapter 40)

In the story of Runne, KiNa is called to the Vision Stone on that world, not knowing what it was or how he was associated with it. This was the companion Vision Stone that connected to the one on the Nefolian world, allowing the people of Nefol to escape to the distant Runnian world.

During his interaction with the Stone, it showed him a lost memory of his own past.

The sounds of distant cries filled his mind. The blue light enveloped him, the sensation of movement washing through his limbs, as if he was being picked up and placed somewhere else. Clouds began to churn and sweep across his vision, shapes forming from their depths.

People. KiNa could see the outline of people. No features, just the shadowy flux of clouds that formed images, which flowed in and out of true shape.

A woman, holding a child close to her chest. Her voice came to him, echoing through the very fiber of his existence.

– Take him, Lady Zazo! He’s just a little boy! Please, take him!-

The woman reached out, holding the child’s shape to a swelling shadow within the clouds. KiNa gasped as a second larger shape formed, that of a huge wolf. The creature opened its huge fanged maw, reaching for the child-shape. Though KiNa watched in mounting horror, the unexplained happened. The wolf took the child by the collar and lifted the shape away from the mother with great care.

-Mommy! Daddy!-

The child cried, reaching arms back. Not for fear of the wolf. But grief of loss. Something wrenched in KiNa’s chest, so powerful it took his breath.

– GO! GO!- Another shape formed in the clouds, one with a man’s voice. The father.

The huge wolf rounded away from the man and woman, still carrying the child in its mouth. Then with a great bound, it leapt and vanished into the swirling light.

The glow intensified, blasting through the clouds, and ripping away the visions. KiNa stumbled back from the Stone, losing his footing and crumpling to the ground. Shaking all over, the boy gasped for breath, trying to gather his wits. It was only then he realized his face was wet, streaked with tears.

It may be due to Kip’s connection to the Vision Stone that he began to display Crystal Master-like abilities in his later life.
