Extended Darkstar Dimension History
The Darkstar dimension has many stories that have been written over the years – some which are complete, some which are not. A number of the Wayrift characters have origins in these stories.
While it’s not absolutely necessary to read these stories, they are here for you to find online if you wish. Here’s a quick summary of each, listed in chronological order.
Flames of Bedlam
Flames of Bedlam (Currently Unfinished) is a story from the Time Before that introduces the first Dragons – Bahamut and Leviathan. This is an origin story about the Dragon race and the clan of shape shifters who later become the Summoned Monsters of the FFIV lore.
Dreigiau
Dreigiau is a webnovel that introduces Nefol, a world that’s watched over by beings called Arweinydd. One Arweinydd in particular, Zemi Dreigiau, has become the Patron protector of the Neoflians. These are the people who will eventually become the Lunarians of the FFIV game.
Zemi falls in love with an Earthian girl and takes on a physical form to be with her and better understand life from the Nefolian perspective. This doesn’t come without struggle, however, as there are others of his kind – namely his brother Zerom – who is envious of Zemi’s growing power and connections with the people.
Dreigiau introduces a number of characters who are eventually brought into Wayrift including:
- Zemi Dreigiau
- TsuYa Tai
- AsaHi Ya
- Luccious
- And too many more to list that would be spoilers
Basically, there’s a large cast! While I do my best to include the character dynamics when they are introduced in Wayrift, if you want a better idea of who is who, Dreigiau is your story!
In the end, the Nefolians must escape the threats to their people, which leads them to another world, called Runne. This is the planet upon which the Lunarians lived before fleeing once more to the Blue Planet.
Runne
Runne (Currently Ongoing) is a continuation of Dreigiau, with many of the same characters. It basically tells the story of how the Neoflians transitioned into Lunarians.
There are several important characters introduced here – and a few who were introduced in Dreigiau who are fleshed out a bit more. This includes:
- Kip (KiNaTu)
- ShiKon
- FuSoYa
- NaTu
And various other characters (again avoiding spoilers).
Shimmer / Shadows of Zot
Shimmer is a webcomic about a young Ben’s experiences after he was captured and taken to Zot by Zemus. This introduces characters such as Chase, and expands on characters such as Kip and TsuMe (TsuYaTai).
Shadows of Zot was an attempt to novelize the webcomic after it was put on hiatus.
Sadly, both of these remain incomplete.
