Coming of the Darkstar
The Darkstar dimension has a follow-up fanfiction novel that takes place five years after the end of the FFIV game, and right before Wayrift begins. This is called Coming of the Darkstar.
You can read the fanfic if you want the full Darkstar lore, but here's the most important takeaways to know:
- Golbez – who goes by his human name “Benjamin” (Ben) -- returns to the Blue Planet
- He’s attempting to thwart a plot that’s causing the violent destruction of the Crystals
- Ben struggles with the guilt of his past deeds and in learning how to connect with his human side
- Several of the FFIV characters take part in this story, but there are also a number of original characters introduced (who later show up in Wayrift, as well)
- The concept of the Dark Sygnus (also called Darkstar) is introduced – and Luccious is named as the Dark Sygnus threat
- Ben and Cecil discover more unknown heritage as their powers combined form a balanced Sygnus who overcomes Luccious in the end
- Once Luccious is defeated, Ben chooses to make his home in Baron at Cecil’s invitation
- Important: The Crystals of the Darkstar dimension – both on the Blue Planet and the Moon – were destroyed in this conflict
